Become involved in the only specialized school in Grecia for students with physical and mental challenges. These students are provided a specialized program to help them develop their skills and confidence. There is an opportunity for the special need students and adults in the community to work in the attached workshop allowing them to participate in the community and to be able to socialize in an everyday situation.
DESCRIPTION:
- Teachers aid to the students providing physical assistance to those that need it
- Working one on one with students in the classroom with assigned tasks from the teacher
- Communicating with the students and their family
- Building a relationship with the student and assisting them with their needs
- Assisting with the service and eating of lunch
(there are various degrees of special needs in one classroom)
Simon Bolivar Public School
This school located at the top of Grecia is a valuable asset to the community. The director of the school welcomes with open arms our volunteers in a variety of programs. The school has a special needs classroom with about 12 students that is open to volunteers as well as an English class that is excited about the opportunity of working with a native English speaker.

Senior Centre of Grecia
The heart of the city is the Senior Centre. Here there is an abundance of activities for those of the third age (tercera edad) as they are referred to here. These centres allow the seniors to explore their talents and develop new ones in a social setting also organizing public concerts or displays of activities. This allows the seniors to feel more of the community.

Oficina de Desarrollo Humano & Oficina de la Mujer
A great resource for the city. 2007 is the first year the office is being organized by a professional in the social service field. There is a lot of flexibility in the volunteer opportunities available with the office.

MINAE - Ministerio de Ambiente y Energia, Grecia, Office
The Grecia office of the ministry is responsible for the maintanence of the Reserva Forestal Bosque del Niño. It is located in San Pedro de Poás, bordered by the Poás Volcano National Park and the Río Toro protected zone. This park houses facilites for visitors and researchers. It has an area of 30 hectares, 22 of which are natural secondary forest and the other 8 are a coniferous forest. The reserve is comprised of a low mountainous wet forest.

Finca Integral Organica Agricola San Luis - Familia Rogriquez Gonzalez
A beautiful family organic farm located about 15 min outside of the downtown of Grecia. They grow vegetable, flowers and medicinal herbs all organically! They are at the local Saturday market every week and they run their own at the farm every first and third Sunday of the month.

Association de Mujeres de San Luis
Located about 100m from the Organic Farm the association produces 16 different organic products that is sold locally.
